The 18th Global Film Festival in Santo Domingo will be held in the Dominican Republic. The film 'Milly, the Queen of Merengue' will open the event on January 28. The movie tells the story of Dominican singer Milly Quezada, who emigrated to the US as a young woman. The festival will run until February 4 and will feature short films and documentaries. The organizers also honored singer and actress Cecilia García. Hungary is the guest country of honor. Guests include writer Julia Álvarez, director Antonio Saura, and other artists. The festival is organized by the Global Democracy and Development Foundation (Funglode).
